WP2: Specification of Modelling Requirements

The ECS layout has been fully described by the Topic Manager with complete information on components and system requirements together with validation data for steady-state conditions. The analysis of the aforementioned information had led to identify the main challenges of the project. Three key aspects to focus on when developing models: robustness, low computational time and accuracy. General numerical aspects to be addressed: initialization, steady-state and dynamic resolution, sharp transients (start-up/shut-down). Crucial components to be developed: heat exchangers (two-phase flows, moist air). System level numerical challenges: thermo-static valve resolution, charge management, circuits in parallel, numerical stability in closed circuits etc.
